Kick Start Your Marketing EffortsThe most powerful marketing enhancement you can add to your web site is a mailing list.If you have been diligent in promoting your web site you’ve done the obvious things such as adding your URL to your business cards, advertisements, and all correspondence. Repeat site visitation is encouraged by frequently adding new content and updating existing material. You have also submitted your site to a large variety of search engines and meticulously tweaked your meta tags to enhance search engine placement. However, all of these things are reactive: You depend upon the user to come and visit, or revisit, your web site. Let’s get proactive.
Mailing/Discussion ListA mailing list allows a single email message to be automatically, and instantaneously, sent to a list of subscribers. Posting a message to the list is exactly the same as sending any other email message. The list software is a program that takes care of all the details letting you concentrate on marketing. There are three types of list:
How is a List Used?A one-way list is perfect for a newsletter. You can periodically send out developments in your field. At the bottom of the newsletter you can add promotional items. Subscribers enjoy receiving current information on material in their area of interest. A free mailing list helps transform the casual visitors to your site into loyal supporters.A general discussion list is great if you have a group of people sharing a common interest. Think of an asynchronous party. There may be many conversations taking place simultaneously. If your site has a special theme, a general discussion list can permit people with a common interest to exchange ideas and ask questions. Your two or three line promotional message appears at the bottom of every message. Think about it, if your list has 1,000 subscribers and it averages five messages a day, your promo is seen 5,000 times a day! A moderated list is the same as a general discussion list except the moderator must approve, and possibly edit, a message before it’s distributed. Although it’s a lot of work for the moderator this type of list works well for professional lists.
What Are The Limitations?Sites generated and managed by the Rapid Web Site engine have a terms of service (TOS) policy. One of the things forbidden is sending unsolicited mail or span. This is for your protection. If you send span, your site will soon be blocked by the like of AOL. All subscribers to a mailing list on your site must be opt-in. Stated simply; your subscribers have taken a positive action to subscribe to your list. You cannot just arbitrarily add subscribers to your list.We make it easy, once you have a list a Subscribe/Unsubscribe form will appear at the bottom of every page on your site.
How Much Does It Cost?
If you already have a list of opt-in address we will add them for you in one shot for $9.95.
How is the List Administered? When you apply for a list you will supply a welcome message and a help message. (We give you a sample template for both.) You can also supply your own promotional message that appears at the bottom of every message. When someone subscribes they automatically receive your welcome message and you receive a notice they have subscribed. If they send a message asking for help they receive your help message. If they unsubscribe they, and you, are both notified. The only downside to have is list is management. In an ideal world people would unsubscribe themselves when they change their email address. In the real world they rarely do that. The administrator receives a notice when mail bounces. The deletion of a subscriber cannot be automated because it’s a judgment call. Mail servers routinely go down, even big ones like AOL and hotmail. When you do decide to unsubscribe someone it’s as simple as going to one of your web site pages, entering their address into the bottom of the page form, and clicking on unsubscribe.
How Many Lists May I Have? There are no limits to the number of lists allowed. Many users have a newsletter and a general discussion list. If you apply for two, or more, lists at the same time there is only one set up fee.
